WMU Focus Service Followed By Covered-dish Luncheon
This Sunday, February 13, 2011, we will observe WMU Focus Sunday. Eleanor Haskins, president of our WMU, along with ladies of the WMU will lead during our worship service at 11 AM. Immediately following the service, we will resume our Second Sunday Fellowship Meal with a covered-dish luncheon. As usual the church will provide fried chicken and members are asked to bring side dishes and desserts.
Communion this Sunday, Feb. 6
This Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, we’ll observe communion during the morning worship service. We take communion on the first Sunday of each month and invite you to join us then for this meaningful memorial to our Lord’s sacrificial death and triumphant resurrection. See you Sunday at 11 AM, or come at 9:45 AM for Bible study where there’s a place for every member of the family.
Col. Andy Todd
Colonel Andy Todd, former commandant and interim president of Hargrave Military Academy, died Wednesday night, January 20, 2011. Our prayers and Christian sympathy are extended to his widow, Elsie, and to Col. Todd’s family. Arrangements are pending.
Andy was a member of Chatham Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, treasurer, a member of many church committees, and as a member of the Arnn Sunday School Class.
All Activities Cancelled for Wed, Jan 12, 2011
All activities for Wednesday night, January 12, 2011, are cancelled due to weather. Our standard closing policy is that when Pittsylvania County Schools are closed, all church activities are also cancelled. See you Sunday!
Wednesday night activities resume Jan. 5, 2011
Our regular Wednesday night activities resume this week, January 5, 2011. Beginning with our fellowship meal at 5:45 PM, we then gather at 6:30 PM for Bible study for adults, Children in Action for elementary kids, and Mission Friends for preschoolers. Adult choir practice begins at 7 PM each Wednesday night.
If you are not on the permanent meal reservation list, you may make your reservations for dinner on a weekly basis by calling the church office, 432-8003, by noon on Wednesday.
All Services Cancelled for Sunday, Dec 26, 2010
All services for Sunday, December 26, 2010, have been cancelled because of the winter storm warning issued by the U. S. Weather Service. Snow is expected to continue to fall through Sunday and into Monday in some parts of our area. Temperatures will fall below freezing tonight and hover around 32 degrees on Sunday. Please stay safe and we’ll gather again on the first Sunday of 2011 next week, Deo Volente.*

Christmas Eve Service tonight, 5:30 PM
Our traditional Christmas Eve service of carols, candles and communion is at 5:30 PM tonight. This come-as-you-are service is based on the traditional lessons and carols service, but abbreviated so that families with small children can participate. If you have guests, please bring them as we sing the great carols of Christmas, read the Christmas story, and gather around the Lord’s Table for communion on the eve of His birth.
Horse-drawn Wagon Caroling This Saturday, 2 PM
This isn’t our horse-drawn wagon, but it’s pretty close. Join us for caroling this Saturday!
Join us for an old-fashioned Christmas caroling complete with horse-drawn wagon and lots of good cheer. We’ll gather in the church parking lot on Saturday, December 18, at 2 PM and head out to serenade our shut-in members and neighbors with a medley of Christmas carols. Boys and girls are especially invited. Bundle up and get there early because seating is limited and the wagon will start rolling when everyone’s aboard.
In case of weather that keeps the horses in the barn, we’ll go on the church bus to bring the spirit of Christmas in song to our community.
Christmas Music, Sunday, Dec 12 at 3 PM
On Sunday, December 12, at 3 PM, the Adult Choir will present The Promise of a King. The Adult Choir will be joined by several guest soloists and instrumentalists, all under the direction of Mrs. Jean Harper Vernon.
The authors, Lloyd Larson and Joseph M. Martin, describe their work with this comment:
“As the Christmas promise is fulfilled again in the hearts of those who hear its ageless message through these words and music, we pray that it will renew your hope for a bright future of God’s making. Joy to the world! The Lord has come. Let earth receive her King!”
