Our thoughts and prayers have gone out for those displaced by Hurricane Harvey and Irma from Texas to Florida. To help hurricane victims, we will assemble personal hygiene kits on Wednesday, Sep 13, at 6:15 PM in the fellowship hall.
Currently, we are collecting hygiene items to make 100 personal care kits for those displaced by Hurricane Harvey and Irma. The items must fit in a 1-gallon zip-lock bag, so these must be new, and small or travel-sized items. Each bag will have the same items, as follows:
- Bath soap (small bar)
- Shampoo (small bottle or travel size)
- Comb or brush
- Facial tissue (soft pocket pack or travel size)
- Shaving cream and razor (travel size shave cream)
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
The church will provide the 1-gallon Ziploc bags. If you want to assemble your own kit at home and bring it to the church, that is fine. If you want to contribute to the purchase of hygiene items, each kit costs about $10. Make your check to Chatham Baptist Church and mark “care kits” in the memo line.
Many of our members have already donated items. This is a continuing need and we are supporting the distribution efforts of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV), our Baptist state convention. The BGAV has people on the ground in Texas, and soon we will be providing relief in Florida.
Completed hygiene kits will be taken to Moffett Memorial Baptist Church in Danville for pickup by the BGAV Disaster Relief team.
